DMRA welcomes 2014 with some exciting updates for our many supporters! Your gifts have helped make the dream become a reality…almost! We are very thankful for the support you have provided!

Take a moment to review our work in progress:

We have hired our first employees! Please welcome Jeff Staley and Dave Sontag to the team!

Jeff Staley has been named the General Manager of DMRA, Inc. In this role, Jeff will be charged with overall operations of Detroit Mountain. He comes with a tremendous amount of experience including a degree in Parks and Recreation from Colorado State University, extensive experience in retail and human resources – and of course a passion for all things outdoors!

Dave Sontag has been named the Mountain Manager of DMRA, Inc. Originally from Detroit Lakes, Dave returns to us after twenty years of experience in facilities management. Dave has worked for Lutsen Ski Group in Lutsen, MN and Granite Peak in Wausau, WI providing lift maintenance, snow making operations, and construction of ski trails and terrain parks. We are thrilled to have him overseeing our outdoor operations.

The Lodge! We have a roof, windows, and a beautiful view!Work continues on both the interior and exterior of the lodge, despite the temperatures.

Up to the Top! As shown in the picture below, our ski lifts are ordered and being manufactured in New Hampshire to be delivered this spring! The mountain will offer two “triple” overhead lifts, 2 magic carpets for new skiers, and two tow ropes.

Bike Trails, Gravity Feed Flow Trails! The biking trails continue to be designed by Progressive Trail Design out of Arkansas. A group of DMRA board members are traveling to Arkansas to meet with Progressive and enjoy riding their trail system. DMRA will have purpose built trails including cross country, gravity fed, and pump track. The trails are being carefully designed with all levels of riders – from beginners to professionals – in mind.

Cross Country Ski Trails! The ski trails are currently being assessed and mapped by Dan Josephson, DMRA Board Member and Detroit Lakes High School Nordic coach.
Ski Patrol! We have a group of ski enthusiasts participating in alpine certification and training this year through Buena Vista Ski Area. Watch for more information as we will continue offering certification and training in preparation for our 2014 opening!

Closing the gap! We have been thrilled with the regional support and enthusiasm for our project! Commitments big and small have helped us raise close to 6 million dollars in pledges! Because of your help, we have just a small amount left to raise to reach our goal of opening a debt free facility early this winter! If you know of anyone interested in making a pledge or donation that hasn’t yet made a commitment, please e-mail or call Mark Fritz. mark@lakeshirts.com 218-849-3181.

Central Market We Care Program! DMRA is now part of the We Care Program at Central Market. Central Market, one of our key supporters, has a program that gives a percentage of collected receipts to the charity of your choice. Please save your receipts and a portion will be given back to DMRA! Receipts are being collected at DL Bike Shop, Lakes Sport Shop, La Barista, and Jonathan’s Salon. To date Central Market has given more than 1.5 million back to our community through We Care. Please help us by shopping at Central Market!

Thank you again for all of the support and encouragement for DMRA. 2014 will be the beginning of many wonderful experiences for our community and beyond. Stay tuned for more project updates!
